In April 2022, the government of Andhra Pradesh took a historic step by reorganizing the existing districts of the state, increasing the number of districts from 13 to 26. As a result of this significant step taken by the Andhra Pradesh government, the state now has 26 administrative districts, each with its own unique features and characteristics.

Before the reorganization in 2022, Andhra Pradesh had 13 districts. The number was doubled to 26 to improve administrative efficiency and governance. According to the Census 2011, the total population of Andhra Pradesh is 84,580,777. Prakasam is the largest district in Andhra Pradesh by area, while Visakhapatnam has the highest population as per the 2011 Census. List of Districts of Andhra Pradesh
Andhra Pradesh, also known as the “Kohinoor of India”, was formed by the merging of Andhra state and Telangana. After the reorganization of its districts, 13 new districts were added to the state. Those new districts are Palnadu, Nandyal, Kona Seema, Eluru, NTR, Bapatla, Sri Sathya Sai, Manyam, Alluri Sitharama Raju, Anakapalli, Kakinada, Annamayya and Sri Balaji. Largest District of Andhra Pradesh
Prakasam is the Largest District of Andhra Pradesh by area. It was named after Sri Tanguturi Prakasam Panthulu, a freedom fighter and the First Chief Minister of Andhra State in 1953. This district has a total population of 3,397,448 as per the 2011 Census. The female population of the district is 1,682,684, which forms 49.52% of the district and 3.99% of Andhra Pradesh’s female population.

Visakhapatnam is the Smallest District of Andhra Pradesh It is often called “The Jewel of the East Coast”.The district has a total population of 4,290,589 as per the 2011 Census, which makes up 3.95% of the total population of the state. The female population of Visakhapatnam is 2,151,679, which makes up 50.14% of the district’s total population. The Rural and Urban population of Visakhapatnam is 2,254,667 and 2,035,922, which make up 52.55% and 47.45% of the district’s total population.
