The Smallest District of Assam is South Salmara-Mankachar, located in the southwestern part of the state. Created in 2016, this district covers an area of approximately 568 square kilometers. It was carved out of the Dhubri district and shares an international border with Bangladesh. Despite its small size, it plays a crucial role in cross-border trade and administration. It is a part of the Lower Assam division and has Hatsingimari as its headquarters.
