Districts of Mizoram

Mizoram is a state in northeastern India, surrounded by Myanmar, Bangladesh, and other Indian states like Tripura, Assam, and Manipur. Aizawl is the capital city, and the state has a population of about 1.1 million people. Mizoram’s economy is primarily agrarian, and horticultural products are the key agricultural outputs. There are 11 Districts of Mizoram, and they are known for their scenic beauty and eco-tourism, with places like Lengteng Wildlife Sanctuary and Tamdil Lake. The state is rich in biodiversity and is known as part of the Indo-Burma biodiversity hotspot.                                                    

Districts of Mizoram

Mizoram consists of 11 districts, each with its own distinct features. Aizawl was the first District of Mizoram and also the capital district of the state. It is the political, cultural, and economic center of the state. Each district has its own significance, like Lunglei serves as a major trade and commerce hub of the state, and Champhai, located is known for its fruit cultivation, particularly pineapples. Hnahthial, Khawzawl, and Saitual are newer districts, formed in 2019 to improve administrative efficiency, with growing populations and local development of Mizoram.

List of Districts in Mizoram

Mizoram was officially formed as a state on February 20, 1987, after being separated from the union territory of Mizoram. The state was divided into 8 districts after its formation, and Aizawl was declared as the First district and the capital. In the period of 2011 to 2019, three new districts, Hnahthial, Khawzawl, and Saitual, were formed by separating a portion from the older districts to facilitate the administration and growing population of Mizoram. The Largest District of Mizoram

The Largest District of Mizoram is Aizawl, which also serves as the state’s capital. Aizawl covers an area of about 3,600 km² and is located in the central part of the state. The district is known for its scenic hilltop views and historical significance. Aizawl is the administrative center of the state, where all the government institutions, educational centers, and commercial establishments are situated. The district also plays a major role in Mizoram’s tourism industry, with known attractions like the Solomon’s Temple and Durtlang Hills.

The Smallest District of Mizoram

The Smallest District of Mizoram is Khawzawl, which was formed in 2015 from the parts of Champhai district. It is located in the northeastern part of the state and covers an area of around 727 km². Khawzawl shares a border with Myanmar, which makes it an important location for trade and cultural exchange. Khawzawl’s administration is focused on local development and improving administrative efficiency in the region.
