Chief Minister of Bihar is the head of the state government and is appointed by the governor who is entitled to the position for the tenure of 5 years. The Current Chief Minister of Bihar is Nitish Kumar serving since 22 February 2015 from Janata Dal. He is also the Longest Serving Chief Minister of Bihar, with a tenure of more than 18 years. The First Chief Minister of Bihar was Shri Krishna Sinha. Since 15 August 1947, there were 23 leaders who served the position as Chief Ministers of Bihar, with Rabri Devi, wife of former Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav of the Rashtriya Janata Dal being the first and only Female Chief Minister to have held this position.
First Chief Minister of Bihar
Shri Krishna Sinha, was the First Chief Minister of Bihar with a total tenure of 17 years and 51 days. He was the MLA from 1952 – 1957 and from Sheikhpura from 1957 until his death in 1961. Shri Krishna Sinha led a government formed by the Indian National Congress. After India’s Independence, he became Bihar’s leader and became the First Chief Minister in 1947.
First Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar
Anugrah Narayan Sinha, was the First Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar and also the First Finance Minister of Bihar serving from 1946 – 1957. He was also known as Bihar Vibuti. He represented the Aurangabad constituency. He was among the First Freedom fighters to respond to Mahatma Gandhi’s call for Satyagraha in 1940-41.
