First Chief Minister of Meghalaya
Captain Williamson A. Sangma was the First Chief Minister of Meghalaya and is widely regarded as the architect and founding father of the state. He initially served as the head of the autonomous state from April 2, 1970, and continued as the First Chief Minister of Meghalaya attained full statehood on January 21, 1972, serving until March 23, 1978.
Current Chief Minister of Meghalaya
Conrad Kongkal Sangma is an Indian politician who is the 12th and Current Chief Minister of Meghalaya since 2018. In the late 1990s, Sangma began his political career as the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) campaign manager for his father, P. A. Sangma. He had held a number of significant positions in the state government, including Finance, Power, Tourism, GAD, and IT. Within ten days of becoming a minister, he presented Meghalaya’s first annual budget.
Longest-serving Chief Minister of Meghalaya
Mukul Manda Sangma is the 11th Chief Minister of Meghalaya (2010-2018) and is currently the leader of the opposition in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly. With an incredible tenure of eight years, Mukul Sangma is the longest-serving Chief Minister of Meghalaya. Significant advancements in governance under his direction were made, with a focus on developmental projects and meeting the many demands of the state’s citizens.
