Telangana was formed through the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, passed by the Indian Parliament, which carved out ten districts from the north-western region of Andhra Pradesh. Since its formation, the state has been governed by two prominent Chief Ministers. Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao, the first to hold the position, led the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) to multiple electoral victories and went on to become the longest-serving Chief Minister of Telangana.

First Chief Minister of Telangana
K. Chandrashekar Rao was the First Chief Minister of Telangana, serving in office for nine years. He played a major role in the formation of the state and founded the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) in 2001 to advocate for statehood. Under his leadership, the TRS evolved into a national party in 2022. During his tenure, he launched several major welfare schemes such as Mission Bhagiratha, Kalyana Lakshmi, and Rythu Bandhu, which significantly contributed to the development of the state.
Current Chief Minister of Telangana
Anumula Revanth Reddy is the Current Chief Minister of Telangana. He joined the Indian National Congress in 2017 and was appointed President of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee in July 2021. In the 2023 state elections, he led the Congress to a significant victory. As Chief Minister, he introduced citizen-centric initiatives such as Praja Darbar and reinstated the Arogyasri health scheme. His administration also waived ₹31,000 crore in farm loans, thereby supporting nearly four million farmers across the state.
